Best Thing to do in Vegas: Fly a Stunt Plane

Are you an adrenaline junkie? Are you always scouting for the craziest activities to do? Have you ever wanted to fly a plane? Here is your chance to try the best activity in Vegas!

The Guidelines

On my 21st birthday, I flew to Vegas and wanted to test my limitations on how far I could push myself. I had saved enough money to have one big excursion and as I was surfing the web I found an experience that advertised itself as the ultimate extreme adventure. This had to be the best activity in Vegas! My boyfriend and I signed up for it and it was the craziest thing I have ever done.

Foremost, the guide will pick you up at your hotel and whisk you away to the middle of the desert. Then, the trained pilots will go over a brief safety video and you will be strapped up with a parachute. There may be a chance you will crash and you will have to save yourself in the situation. This is unlikely to happen though. Once you get your pictures taken you are buckled into the plane with a headset and are told not to push the bar on the side or the roof will come off of the plane. You take off and make sure you can hear your partner speaking to you. I was rendered speechless most of the time, except for the few brief cuss words I used to describe how badass the experience is. You get the clearing to fly and you take off into the sky.

Piloting the Plane

Your copilot will show you some of the basic maneuvers of stunt flying and then let you try them for yourself. We did barrel rows, upright and inverted spins, hammerhead and tail slides, and a tumbling maneuver. These moves can consist of flying upside down, flipping, and spinning speedily. You have to have a pretty strong stomach for this tour or you will throw up. They provide bags for that though. The controls to me was like playing an Atari video game and there is a pedal you use to help you on some maneuvers.

G Force Experience

The pilot will then ask you if you are okay with trying out G Force. 40% of people pass out on this move and most will get tunnel vision. G force is a force that acts on your body as a result of acceleration or gravity. For example, if the plane makes a rapid turn it can generate more than 6 times the force of Earth’s gravity. The body’s response to this is to increase your heart rate in order to supply your brain with the proper blood flow. A lot of people are not used to having their heart work so hard to provide oxygen to their brain so that is why you can pass out or develop tunnel vision. After doing this maneuver, and getting back on the ground my body was weak.

Tour Details:

The tour I used was Sky Combat Ace. They have other options for different flight experiences. The experience I did was the ” Top Gun”. It was 700 dollars, but well worth it. Other experiences may include laser tag in the sky with another plane for an intense feat or it can be more of a laidback experience with some thrills by being just a passenger in the plane and not doing as intense moves.
